The new Director of Merchandising/Inventory will be responsible for working with a team of Buyers to select, plan, analyze and continually provide new/evolving merchandise for our customers to purchase in our comfortable, service oriented retail stores & websites.

As our new Director of Merchandising/Inventory you will...

  • Responsible for strategizing, developing, and leading the merchandising efforts for the retail stores and Internet. Through individual effort (hands on) and the management of his/her team, ensures the accurate, timely and profitable execution of all departmental merchandising functions. Monitor all inventories from warehouse to store level.
  • Identify category and product growth opportunities by discovering customer insights, competitive shop and analyze sales trends to keep abreast of customers' wants and needs.
  • Manage overall pricing and markdown strategies to ensure gross margin goals are in-line with product assortment and budget.
  • Provide Retail/Marketing team with selections for promotional/feature merchandise and seasonal sales.
  • Maintain accountability for all activities related to obtaining inventory beginning with the initial purchase order and including timely delivery, while maximizing sales/profitability for the company.
  • Analyze the requirements of the company, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and ‘just in time' inventory delivery.
  • Manage the budget process and the department budget results.
  • Make recommendations for improvements in methods, processes, and work quality for continual improvement in efficiency, including maximizing labor investments.
  • Be responsible for company manufacturing/private label/import development of products to market, and retail packaging supplies management.
  • Supervise, manage, coach, train and review all personnel in the department.
  • Develop policies and procedures to enhance performance.

Our ideal candidate will have...

  • A Master's Degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous Retail/Internet/Wholesale experience desired.
  • The ability to communicate (both in writing and verbally) to a range of people from front line staff to executive management.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Accounting and Database software; Inventory software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
  • A valid Driver's License.
  • The ability to travel (25% to out of area trade shows, etc. and up to 25% site visits to company Retail stores).
  • The ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and must be able to continuously stand/walk for up to 8+ hours during trade shows.
